What style of Pilates is Pilates Mariposa?
We are a contemporary Pilates studio that combines OG Pilates principles with a modern flair. You should expect challenging classes, knowledgable instructors, and an effective workout - every time. We pride ourselves on high quality routines, intentional timings, and creativite sequences. No class is exactly the same as another - we let our instructors shine without compromising quality.
What classes do you offer?
All of our classes are challenging, fully body workouts that follow a shared structure of beginning with intentional warm up moves, moving through different muscle groups, and ending with a well deserved and much needed stretch. We currently offer 3 class formats:
Signature - our classic class that puts a challenging spin on a breadth of Pilates moves. No props will be heavier than 10lbs. If it's your first Pilates class, start here.
Strength - expect heavy props and heavy springs. If you skipped strength training this week, this one's for you.
Evolve - instructors get free rein to push the boundaries of what we can do with our reformers. If you love to keep it fresh and aren't afraid of new challenges, come on through.
I've never done Pilates before. What should I do?
Buckle in and come on through! Be sure to arrive 10 minutes early and introduce yourself to the instructor so you can get checked in and acclimated to the studio. We'll give you a run down of the equipment and make sure you're set up for a successful first Pilates experience! Grip socks are required and we sell them in the studio if you want to order ahead or buy some on the day. Don't forget to tell us about any injuries you may have.
What is the cancellation policy?
Clients must cancel no later than 10 hours before start time to retain the class credit and avoid a late cancel or no show charge. If you are signed up for class and cancel within the 10 hour time period, your class credit will be lost and you will be charged a $15 late cancel. If you no show for a class, your class credit will be lost and you will be charged a $20 no show fee. Cancellation fees are non-refundable - thank you for understanding our need to maximize our equipment and honour our clients on the waitlist.
What is the late entry policy?
Returning clients have a 5 minute grace period after the class start time during which they will be able to enter class. Entry will not be permitted after 5 minutes in order to protect the integrity of the class, to ensure your safety, and to provide the best experience for the clients and instructor in the class. New clients must arrive no later than 5 minutes to the start of class time so that your instructor can walk you through the equipment - this is crucial. We ask that new clients aim to arrive ten minutes before the start of class to enure a smooth and safe start to class.
What are the need to know studio policies and etiquette guidelines?
Thank you for caring! It's incredibly important to us that our space is a physically safe and socially supportive environment for our clients and team members. Here are some things to be mindful of at the studio:
- Time of entry: To ensure the safety of clients and to protect the integrity of the class, entry for returning clients will not be permitted past 5 minutes of the start of class. New clients must arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of class.
- No filming: Filming during class is not permitted under any cirumstances. It can make other clients feel extremely uncomfortable, and puts our instructors in a vulnerable position. Please respect this policy. Photos before and after class are welcome!
- No nipple policy. Gentlemen - we love having you in class, but keep it PG. If the ladies can't let their nips fly free, neither can you.
- Grip socks required, for your safety and for studio hygiene. Trust us.
- Kindness is everything. We are a community that welcomes people from all walks of life. Please treat instructors and fellow clients with respect and courtesy.
Can I do Pilates when injured?
It depends on the injury and on your skillset - we always recommend getting clearance from a doctor or physiotherapist before coming to class. If you have a mild injury and have clearance to attend, please inform your instructor so that they can accomodate you -we ask that you don't compromise our instructors by coming to class in a cast. If you have a specific injury and would like a class tailored to work around it, reach out to support@pilatesmariposa.com to see if our private class is a good fit.
I'm pregnant. Can I still come to class?
Absolutely. All of our instructors are knowledgable and know how to adjust moves for you at every stage of your pregnancy. Please tell your instructor how far along you are, and follow their cues to keep you safe while giving you a great workout. Pilates is one of the best ways to keep your body strong and to prepare for labour. As long as you have your doctor's approval, we can't wait to see you in class! We also have periodic specific pre and post partum classes on the schedule designed just for our soon to be and recent mammas, so keep a look out! Disclaimer: if you've never done reformer Pilates before, starting at 6 months pregnant isn't a great idea. We can accomodate you with a private mat session if you still want to come through!
Do you sell gift cards?
